Private and Secret Beaches in Mexico
In Mexico you will find 5700 miles of coastline and not all of it is huge resorts. There are some beautiful beaches in Mexico that are lesser known and make for a great breakaway from the busy tourist areas.
The island of Holbox is 7 miles off the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula. The island is about 26 miles long and a mile wide and it is very remote even though it is just 100 miles from Cancun. Instead of massive hotels you will find rustic palapas on the beaches. Here you will be able to experience swimming with whale sharks.
Rincon de Guayabitos, Riviera Nayarit
Along the Pacific coast and north of Puerto Vallarta is Riviera Nayarit. This area has already been discovered by celebrities and could become the next hotspot in Mexico with the luxury Punta Mita resort, but if you a little more north you will find Rincon de Guayabitos, which is a small town with a great beach.
Mulege, Baja California Sur
In the Baja California Sur on the Sea of Cortes is a quiet town called Mulege. The town is friendly and is a great base to explore Bahia Concepcion a beautiful bay and beaches.
Xcalak, Costa Maya
Xcalak is close to the Belize border. The village is within the Xcalak National Reef Park, so you will find snorkelling, diving and fishing opportunities here.
San Agustinillo, Oaxaca
Oaxaca has beautiful beaches and you will also find a small fishing village called San Agustinillo. This town is between Zipolite and Mazunte beaches. The beach here is golden and the water is clear. You able to take a boat tour to see the sea life which includes turtles and crocodiles. There is small selection of hotels and a palapa style restaurant.
